The findings in the following preprint could provide some new hope for patients with Type 2 Diabetes and potentially help prevent/ameliorate the disease process from happing.
In diabetes, the beta-islet pancreatic cells appear to lose function (dedifferentiate) leading to shut down of insulin production. Although all five phytocannabinoids tested in this research demonstrated the capability to inhibit β-cell dedifferentiation induced by HG-HL, CBD seems to be more effective compared to the other phytocannabinoids, as indicated by the specific biomarker responses of βcells and progenitor cells to CBD. THCV was also tested and it was effective.
